After years of shared trauma, love, and heartbreak-including memory loss, political danger, and mutual misunderstandings-their relationship fractures, sending both into isolation: Paul into obsessive research and Rachel into overwhelming guilt and emotional collapse. As each struggles privately with duty, fear, and the wounds they inflicted on one another, friends on both worlds work to pull them back from the edge.
