Beschrijving

When Edith arrives for a holiday on the Shropshire Union Canal (the Shroppie), the cynicism born of her recent divorce has convinced her there is no magic left in the world, but a mysterious man on a classic narrowboat named Phantom emerges from the mist to prove her wrong. Joanna is cruising through the haunted darkness of Harecastle Tunnel with marriage on her mind when an enormous black hound with fiery eyes lands on the cabin top and shifts into a warrior with a glittering sword. Rose is a talented artist and world traveller, but she meets her match and more when she spots the handsome captain of the beautifully painted Phantom at Tower Wharf in Chester and decides to seduce him. Melanie is far from enchanted by the passionate boatman who seems to win the hearts of women so easily, but mostly because she’s busy trying to manage everything and everyone around her, especially her younger sister, Edith. In Phantom of the Shroppie, the four women tell their own stories of the supernatural encounters with a legendary hero that transform their ways of seeing themselves and the world around them.

A unique blend of paranormal romance, historical fantasy, old-fashioned ghost story and literary travelogue, Phantom of the Shroppie is a romantic and thought-provoking contemporary fairy tale that embraces escapism while cutting to the chase about the pains and pleasures of life. The novel is intended for an adult audience.
